Beyond the green clad mountains, under the cloudy sky ,unknown to the world outside lies the tiny village of Thampalakkad in Kottayam district of Kerala. Though famous for music,dance,yoga and Kalarippayattu training ,the village is blessed to have Manavodaya Charitable Society working for the upliftment of rural people.Octogenarian Thankamma teacher leads the activities funded by her own pension money ,with the help of local resource persons.Senior women’s daycare home,senior women’s shop,organic farming,candle making, incent stick making, mosquito repellant making,soap making,paperbag making,wick making,pickle making are areas of operation of Manavodaya.
Taking up the challenge paused by Covid-19 ,Sasikala and her team who received free training from Manavodaya are engaged in needle fight to stich face masks.Special designer masks with drawings of cartoon characters like Tom&Jerry,Micky mouse,Dora etc are also made for children.Family package consisting of women’s mask,unisex mask and children’s mask has already found market in cities like Bombay,Bangalore,Chennai and Cochin.
